Neutral is natural to us

Re-Power - carbon neutral fuel

Nature is where we and you spend most of our time, and to care for people and the environment is therefor natural for us. The new Husqvarna Re-Power 2-stroke and 4-stroke alkylate fuels with renewable content provide a cleaner combustion inside 2- and 4-stroke engines, compared to regular petrol.

How does Re-Power affect environment?

Fuels for combustion engines create CO2 emissions during use. With Re-Power, part of the CO2 emissions comes instead from renewable raw material, which reduces the carbon footprint compared to regular alkylate fuel.

How do we tackle these issues?

By minimizing our emissions, we are reducing our CO2 impact. This remains insufficient, however. In favor of a carbon neutral footprint, we have chosen to differentiate ourselves.

In collaboration with First Climate Market AG, we are buying credits based on a carbon offsetting project at a wind farm in India. The project is certified according to Clean Development Mechanism and Gold Standard.

How far have we come?

We are proud that our Re-Power 2-stroke and 4-stroke fuels are climate neutral. There is a lot more to do, but it’s a step forward in the direction.

Husqvarna is committed to carbon footprint reduction in areas we can influence. Our Climate Neutral initiative takes on a broader scope in addition to reducing carbon emissions and adhering to global standards. It is present in everything we do – a low-carbon society requires a team effort at every link in the chain.

FAQ

Husqvarna is committed to carbon footprint reduction in areas we can influence. Today’s customers want products with a low carbon footprint that support their efforts to become carbon neutral. Empolyees prefer employer that are committed to environmental protection and investors analyze climate risks within their investment portfolios. There are therefore many good reasons for companies to engage in climate protection initiatives.

A carbon footprint is defined as the total emissions caused by an individual, an organization or a product, expressed as carbon dioxide equivalent. In most cases, the total carbon footprint cannot be exactly calculated due to inadequate knowledge of data and the complex interactions between contributing processes.

In general, the largest footprint of a fuel is related to the use phase. Carbon emissions are also generated during extraction of the raw materials, production and distribution of the fuel. By increasing the renewable content of fuel, there is a decrease of fossile emissions during its use.

A carbon credit is a financial unit of measurement that allows organizations and individuals to support the transition to a low-carbon future. Each time a project verifies a reduction, avoidance or destruction of one metric ton of carbon dioxide, one carbon credit is created. After having reduced emissions to a minimum, purchasing carbon credits is another way for a company to take climate action beyond its own area of influence.

One carbon offset means compensating for emitting one ton of carbon dioxide (CO2) into the atmosphere by preventing a ton of carbon dioxide from entering the atmosphere elsewhere (for example by investing in renewable energy), or by removing one ton of CO2 that is already up there (for example by supporting tree planting).

Carbon offsets are measured in tons of carbon dioxide-equivalent (CO2e). One ton of carbon offset represents the reduction of one ton of carbon dioxide or its equivalent in other greenhouse gases.

The Kyoto Protocol has sanctioned offsets as a way for governments and private companies to earn carbon credits that can be traded on a marketplace. The Kyoto Protocol established the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), which validates and measures carbon reduction projects to ensure they produce authentic benefits and are genuinely “additional” activities that would not otherwise have been undertaken.

The Gold Standard, or Gold Standard for the Global Goals, is a standard and logo certification mark program for nongovernmental emission reductions projects in the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM). It is published and administered by the Gold Standard Foundation, a non-profit foundation headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland.

Standards have been set up to provide assurance to buyers that the emission reductions generated by a particular project are indeed real, quantifiable and additional. Credible standards provide high-quality, independently verified assessments of the emission reductions produced by a project.

The energy consumption (measured power) estimated during the lifetime of a specific product is used. This energy consumption is multiplied by the carbon emission coefficient specific to the country of use. For Re-Power, the fuel per liter is multiplicated with the emission factor for gasoline. The sum is equal to the carbon emission of one liter of gasoline.

Included is the use phase of the fuel. The carbon footprint from production or distribution is not included.
